I always had the feeling the lengthened stock on the M16A2 was an 'improvement' over the A1 on the square range, designed and approved by the match shooters, but not any advantage for combat. It is really too long especially with all the combat gear you are wearing.

The M4 or similar adjustable carbine stock is far better when you are in close quarters and wearing thick body armor, shoulder straps, etc.

I have never handled an A1. The stock is shorter than on a A2 or A4?

By about an inch. It was sized for use with an flak vest.

I did not know that. Thanks.

As far as coyotes I have killed a few at 20 or so yards with regular pheasant loads, let alone turkey or buckshot loads. I do not recall how much damage was done to them though. I kind of wish I looked a bit closer now. Dove loads generally just put them into overdrive but bigger pellets kill them and then some, out to surprising distances.

I also know of two mountain lions killed by chukar hunters. 20-25 yards I was told. Killed them both but I am unsure of the specifics.
