The '68 L-79 327" engines in the Chevelle, El Camino, the Corvette and Nova were the only ones that had a cast iron intake, a 750 cfm Q-jet and a big open element air cleaner. It also had a larger journal crankshaft. It was rated 350 hp in the Corvette but only 325 hp in all the other cars even though the engines were identical. I bought my '68 El Camino in 1970 from a friend who bought it new in 1968. I still have it and with all the original parts. I rebuilt the Q-jet once in the 10 years I drove it.
