Yes there are many, many similarities. Both have roots in ethno-nationalism, and builds off of historical perceived national slights, and fabricating problems from the outside to distract from the problems within.
Putin, Stalin, and Hitler all come from the same place, just with some minor changes in ideology or politics.
And right now Russian society is bat $h1t crazy. Which is hard for me to say. I’ve spent a lot of time in the former eastern block traveling and working over a decade ago. I met tons of great people there.
