Of course. It would have been unheard of for the votes not to be all counted by the morning after. First time I voted (1980 for Ronald Reagan) we voted in booths that were 100% mechanical. No electronics in them, let alone computerization. When you walked in, you worked a lever that closed the curtain and reset everything to zero on the board. Then you'd click all the candidates you wanted to vote for on a board covered in names of candidates/offices with switches next to them. When you pulled the lever again, your vote was counted, and the curtain opened. The machines were easy to verify as accurate before election day. Not much shenanigans that can be done with such a simple machine.
