Take a look at Dirtfarmer's old sporterized springfield above. I have it's twin brother, right down to the fajen stock. It wears an old Lyman 4X permacenter, barrel looks like a sewer pipe but it shoots minute of whitetail.
Thanks, Bugs. This one has a pristine bore thru the Hawkeye, was obviously stored more than shot.
It'll easily shoot MOA with most rounds, better with those it really likes.
I'm amazed that an 80+ yr old barrel shoots as good as a new one.
I did glass and free float it back in the day. It was sitting in my gun room for nearly 50 yrs. Good bud was talking about wanting a Springfield, not knowing I had this one. I got it fixed up and gifted it to him.
He named it Dusty after Dusty Springfield, the singer. Now, that sorta dates him. He and ole Dusty are a dangerous combo. It's a good shooter and he's a good shooter, critters falling left and right, skinning shed staying busy.
