My stainless mini-14 used to be a good honest 11/2 in three shot rifle and went right to a 12 in rifle when it was warm.
I got it bedded, the trigger done, barrel shortened and a muzzle brake added. Now it is a 1" rifle for three shots and goes to 3"" only when it is really hot. To me that is a keeper.
