I did see a mountain lion here in east texas and it "looked" black but it was dark and he was crossing the road in the headlights. That was about 10 years ago, also seen one when I was younger while dad was driving. Late evening coming out of cow pastures both times.
I don't recall anyone around here saying they are black.
