But he hunted over bait... The article claims there are only 1300 bear in the state as of 2020. With those numbers a bait pile is not a guarantee to a bear harvest. Articles and Government statistics, think about that. Who else tracks Oklahomas bear population to compare notes? Your Government, up to you if you trust them or not, I don’t .

Our wildlife department is less retarded than most other states I’ve experience with. FWIW
And while it’s probably not a really accurate count, they aren’t just thick.

And while it’s probably not a really accurate count, they aren’t just thick. My biggest complaint with ODWC is the deer seasons. Archery - Oct 1, Jan 15. Primitive Arms - Oct 28, Nov 5 *Deer Gun - Nov 18, Dec 3 Holiday Antlerless Gun - Dec 18-31 * I live 11 miles north of Red River. The folks across the river get to enjoy hunting season from Nov 1, Dec 31! We get 16 days here in OK! 😖 I'm not asking ODWC to increase the bag limit (6), but the guys that have to work AND enjoy hunting, really take it on the chin! If you don't have or can't get some vacation time, then you're basically stuck with a 6 day season. I grew up hunting in Texas. I can remember when deer season opened on Nov 15th, regardless of the day of the week. Then it changed to the Saturday nearest Nov 15th. The last change was to open on Nov 1, regardless of the day of the week. You had 2 months in which to work in some hunting time! We spent several weekends at our little 2 room shack, hunting deer, ducks, squirrels and the occasional feral hog. Not to mention the catfish out of the creek! Here in Oklahoma, it's bust your butt to be ready by opening day, then it's a marathon to get any hunting time in before season closes. ...and T'giving, right in the middle of everything! It may happen, but not in my lifetime!

As for deflave ? He is our burden. Just like Big Stick and Tarqueen. We must endure with the hope they will see the light. They keep our perspectives in check. IN their own special way, they keep us on the path to enlightenment. The ying and the yang. The good the bad and even the ugly.
kwg
A little less ugly would be nice.
kwg So, you mean he calls out the sh it when he sees it?
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

It may happen, but not in my lifetime! Michigan is similar to that. Archery runs October 1st through January 1st. Rifle season runs November 15-30. It made more sense when there were less bow hunters and archery gear and hunting techniques were primitive. I like rifle hunting because I’m interested in firearms. Shooting a deer in MI with a modern bow or scoped Xbow out of a box blind next to a food plot isn’t all that much more difficult than shooting it with a rifle. I’d like to see an expanded rifle season.

We have twice as long a season as Texas does, you just can’t use a gun for half of it. A crossbow is an effective weapon and legal for all of archery, if gun season doesn’t work out for you then that would be your best option.
I think the Oklahoma hunting seasons are great as far as opportunity goes. Plus we have plenty of public land if a guy doesn’t have a place of his own. I think our bag limit is great as well, we can shoot a buck with archery or muzzleloader and then hold out for a bigger one with a rifle if we chose. The Christmas season is awesome for filling the freezer after most of the buck hunting is over with.
I love the long archery season, the fact that muzzleloader usually falls during the pre rut time when bucks are starting to cruise and can be rattled in, and that we get the opportunity to hunt the peak rut with a rifle.
Deer hunters in Oklahoma have it pretty good.

So I guess the rest of us ain't real hunters? Stone point bow hunter is a Pard unto himself. We should emulate his purity and chasteness that he exhibits in his hunting craft. I'm throwing my rifle in the creek after I tape the objective lens with colorful tape. I bet he'd schit watching me ground pound some COCK. LOL Just because you can be an A$$H0LE, doesnt mean you should be one every day.

But he hunted over bait... You think native Americans didn't take advantage of game feeding on abundance? Back in East Texas, if you can find an overcup oak, you hunt around it! Deer LOVE those acorns. They also drove game herds off of cliffs. Are they real hunters? Well, since Sonic hadn't come out with the $1.50 foot long yet, they did what they had to do to eat! 😉 The local natives also raided their neighbors, kept slaves and killed each other with impunity! Were they real humans?

I think this thread needs a homespun prairie homily from wabigoon to add some common sense to this raging debate. Wabi, can you help us out?? Wabi, wabi, wabi....
