The shrunken/misformed horn on the left side is not attached to the skull, it was somehow growing in the skin.

And yes, one shot with the 1907 Winchester at about 60 yards. 180 gr Hawk busted a rib going in and exited - exit visible in the upper part of the photo. The buck jumped at the shot, and ran about 50 yards before piling up.
