How did GZ reach his gun if TM was straddling him?
Simple. He rolled to one side and reached between TM's leg.
It's that easy to explain.
Or when Martin reached for the weapon, that also provided the opening for Zimmerman to grab it and Z would likely have the better leverage at that point.
