I guess I'm a bit out-of-step with the fire tonight. The 7mm-08 is a good round, but I would choose the "traditional" 7x57 with the same ballistics and more "romance".

The .250-3000 or .300 Savage in the Model 99 would be my first choice.....more because of the rifle than the caliber (although both are great rounds). Harder to find in the Model 99 is another possibility (even though not listed).....the .358. Great for deer/hogs/bear and good for elk at reasonable ranges.
