Just picked up a Remington Model Seven in 223. The price was very right. The only other short barreled varmint chambering I ever played with was a Remington 600 in 222 and the loading notes for it were lost in a flood many years ago.

I bought this rifle as a calling gun for my wife. We'll most likely be using the Sierra 55 grain Gameking as I've had good luck with that bullet on fur. It's seems to be tough enough to stay together but not explosive enough to turn them inside out. Usually a one inch exit wound, which I can live with.

I digress though. My question is what powders have you found to be most effective in a short barreled 223 with 50-55 grain bullets? Thanks in advance.

Here's a pic of the new rifle.

Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.
