Burgers should be simple IMHO. Good fresh Sesame Seed bun, or just plain white burger bun, but fresh. Fresh ground 80/20 beef. I don't like my patty too thick. Add some salt/pepper, and I prefer mine done on a flat-top griddle to get a good crust on the meat. Sharp Cheddar. Crispy salt cured bacon, not too thick. On the top Ketchup, lettuce, good fresh acidic tomato, salt and pepper. On the bottom: a little Duke's mayonnaise, yellow mustard, onion, dill pickle.

Locally, and Sam might be interested in this, there is a little locally owned drug store that still has an old style lunch counter (complete with old wood paneling, Formica counter and stools) in Hoover near Hoover Tactical Firearms. Green Valley Drugs. They serve a pretty good basic burger just as I described, with good crispy fries. They hand pat the fresh ground meat daily. And they serve a mean malted milk too.
