Actually we aren't down, and the most danger we're in is thinking we ARE down and that we must compromise.
Homicide rate at all time low. Children death from firearms at 50+ year low. More pro-gun decisions than in a century.
We don't have to frigging compromise on anything, no matter who the president is. The NRA hasn't figured that out, NSSF is a bit better.
