It's the current practice here at all virtually all clinic, though there are a couple of outliers. The vet will do a telephone consult during or following the exam.
The only exception is euthanasias. For a while they were only letting one family member in for the euthanasia but they've loosened that up now.
Most physicians are doing the same thing - telephone consults. They don't need to see you face to face to give you a form for a urine test.
