My vet center has the same policy that you described. Call ahead for parking lot pickup of prescriptions and appointments are handled by a vet tech meeting me at my truck and then taking the dog in.
I’m not crazy about it, it’s completely unnecessary. I suspect that part of there reasoning is that if they don’t have to deal with people it streamlines there process and cuts down on time spent per animal a bit.
