I have fiddled with R26 in multiple 270’s and think it is best with 150’s maybe 140’s. I use 53.3 grains of R17 with the 129 LRX for 3100.

With 150’s @ 3000 you will notice an increase in recoil compared to the 130’s @ 3100. Over many years, I have struggled to get 150’s to 2900 with older powders and am very happy to get 2900+ with R26.

If you want Big 7 levels of performance then buy a Big 7 or a 270 Wby. I have used the Big 7’s and the only thing they have over a 270 with optimum loads is more recoil and the rifles are usually heavier. A 7 pound Big 7 will really get your attention.

The 270 is a very good balance of bore, bullet weight, velocity, and rifle weight. Nuf said!
