On what WAM had to say: White couple I know adopted a black newborn 25 years ago. Conservative Christian couple, kid was raised the same way. Pretty good kid until he got out of HS and decided to run "with his own". Now he's in the state prison system for assorted misdeeds, including engaging in the drug commerce game.
My take: The kid wasn't equipped to deal with the thug life he came to find attractive, due to his upbringing.
Back in the 1950s, when Americans were adopting Korean War orphans, we had a pic of an oriental-appearing six year old at our house. Visitors would typically ask my mom who adopted the Korean kid? That used to piss mom off. The pic was of one of my cousins, whose mom was half Seneca, half white.
