Same dynamic as the Western mountains. Deep snow along lake superior drives the deer to wintering areas. Large areas of the UP will have zero deer during the deep snow months.

The wolf kill can be pretty bad in some wintering areas.

Years ago our shop superintendent and two of his friends bought some property in either the Keweenaw peninsula or Northern Marquette county to use for deer hunting. They scouted the area during the summer before the purchase, found plenty of deer sign. They hunted the following fall, didn't see any deer. Talking to some locals they found out that the deer heard migrated south after the first snow. To say they were pissed was an understatement.
