That’s interesting because I have NEVER heard of such a thing as standard practice. I was researching the potential for a cremation business opportunity a few years ago and none of them did that as standard practice. It really is unnecessary and an additional cost. None of my cremated family members (6+) were put in a coffin for cremation.

It would seem like a wasteful, costly, unnecessary burden. Typically the corpse is placed on a “table grate” and slid into the crematorium.

I can't tell you if it was required or if it was something they slipped in hoping it wouldn't be questioned in time, which it wasn't. I was gone before that got sorted out. Happened in Florida.
