Guys, if you want use a .223 Rem or 7.62x39 to hunt deer have at it. Can you kill deer with them? Of course you can, with a well placed shot. I don't like either cartridge, mainly because of the original platforms they were chambered in. I don't like the original AR platform or the AK platform, mainly because I spent a year in a target rich environment shooting one and being shot at by the other. If you want use these cartridges and platforms by all means have at it. It is a free county. But I'm not using the damn things, too many bad memories. Oh by the way I do have a varmint rifle chambered for the .223 but it in a different platform.
