I bought a Mexican SR'98 here several years ago. It was nicely sporterized with a fajen monte carlo stock & turned-down military barrel. I sent it to my 'smith to have a Dakota M70 style safety put on and here is what is nearly completed:
-#3 Shilen 9"-twist 7x57 cut to 23"
-re-heat treated receiver
-NECG front sight ramp
-Talley bases w/ flip-up aperture
-Glimm's knob
-Dakota 3-position
-Timney FW
-Leupold VX2 2-7x
-all rust blued
-new custom stock; not as fine a grade as pictured above, but beautiful and straight
-Supergrade sling studs
-checkering by Tim Smith-Lyon @ Classic Checkering
I've had it close to done for a while and, as y'all can imagine, I've been pretty darned excited for a while. Ran low on funds right at the end, so all I'm waiting on now is the checkering.
Really hoping to have it to post up pics & hunt w/ by this fall...
