I bought a mini and used the chit out of it for a year before buying my large. Its pretty tiny but you can get creative.

I still use it to sear steaks and used it last night on a 2.5lb tri tip roast.

Not saying that would be the best option for you but I'm glad I bought my mini.

I don't know if they sell them anymore but my BIL has a Akorn, I believe its slightly larger than the Large BGE but its made out of insulated metal. Not a bad deal for $299. http://www.lowes.com/pd_131712-49769-6719_0__?productId=3609214
