I have a Montana that is my go-to walking-around rifle.
It occasionally has a feeding issue. Seems like years ago, there were threads on fixes for some of the common Montana issues. Can't find it now.
Suggestions?

He said it didn’t feed. That should narrow it down to no more than a few dozen possible causes…..

Fails to reliably pick up the next cartridge. Work action, aim again. Pull trigger. Click on an empty action.

Yep. People so quick to revert to 15 yo adolescent response. I asked for links to the earlier Montana threads, and you responded accordingly. Much appreciated

Tariko, what "Montana" - 84M, 84L, or 8400?
To echo Redneck, I'd also be curious to hear the specific feeding issue.

I thought he meant a Montana 1999. Sure is confusing.

Looking through that thread, there are some good points that I will look into and see if that might be some of my problem.

There's probably 1000 "Kimber" Montana's to every 1999. It was a pretty safe assumption.

Let's start here: mag box spring. Order a new one and try it. I had that issue, new mag box spring, feeds well ever since. If I recall correctly, SamO had the same issue once upon a time. New mag box spring fixed it. I've heard of it a couple other times, mostly with the 84L.

There were many problems with the 84L from what I read many years ago: including white papers.

I think my new 84L Montana 280ai is the smoothest cycling Kimber rifle I own. Very smooth.

The difference AFAIK between an 84M and 84L is their length (intended cartridge class) - they are not different/revisions or progressions of one action with improvements.

Best source for replacement springs?
I have a few other Montanas so I’d probably by a couple as a precaution.
