The Weaver 2-7x28 is a nice compact scope that can be found for around $150. I have one on a 10/22 KRBIBBZ stainless laminated mannlicher.

Or, you can regularly find the 2-7x33 or 3-9x40 Leupld VX-1 scopes on sale for under $200.

I always replace the bolt buffers with a soft, polyurethane, unit to cushion the bolt slam and that may be a contributing factor for why I've never had a scope failure on a 10/22.
