Throw some road bike or some kind of biking and save the knees. I've dumped an embarrasingly large amount of # in 1 year (more than 3/4 of that since I got a half way decent road bike).

I have bad knees, back (lower, mid and neck) and walking any kind of distance is pretty painful, bicycling, magically doesn't hurt the knees anywhere near as bad. The back still hurts but losing very nearly 2 big azzed bags of dogfood weight wise really helps cardio wise. I still want to dump another 20# but dang, I wish I would have listened to my big bro's advise from several years ago and got to it sooner. Not to say biking does it all, but it got me to a place to start the rest of the stuff needed to get to the best I can hope for.
