Battue brings some HEAT! Like it!
All y'all are making Oregon sound pretty good. We have our share of slob hunters and outright poachers but nothing like what you guys describe.
I was on a hillside a few hundred yards up above a road on my private land honeyhole of yore.... Had been standing still for a "while" when a white truck came into view on the road and stopped. Raised my binocs just in time to see a muzzle come out the window and point at me. There was a split second of slo-mo "nooooooo!", then ka-BOOM! I hit the dirt. The truck peeled off. Pissed as hell and ready to return fire I scrambled down the hill to, I kid you not, try to find an angle to get a clean shot at the [bleep]. D'oh. Almost tripped over a freshly-killed spike buck about 20 yards down the hill from where I'd been. They'd just shot it and split; retrieving it wasn't even gonna be possible period from where they were.
To the best of my knowledge no straw hats were involved.
