I thought the same when the stainless & gray laminate guns came out, WTH are they thinking. Now they are collectible.
I guess if your state rules were favorable, you wanted a very compact weather resistant rifle, it could be a good deal for someone. Maybe they already have a .450 AR, and don't need new dies & components.
