I don't think pete is a troll, I think he's just the real (ignorant) deal I just got back from Australia and New Zealand in February (cruise with wife) and loved it--hated the 15 hour flight from LA to Sydney, though. What you don't understand is that many Americans don't think that guns are for hunting and fun anymore. It's all about self defense for them. They live in a paranoid world where the Christian white man is threatened, even though that's who runs the country. Logic doesn't apply to them.
