More as a matter of convenience, and because it generally works well, I use shelled corn and a bottle of cheap pancake syrup. This is pretty easy to hike in, and draws them in.
Gonna have to try that for pigs!
For pigs we just augered a hole about 3 feet deep filled with corn and water.
