Depends on where you are hunting deer. There is a world of difference in hunting deer along the river bottoms of AL and 12,000 feet up in the Rocky Mountains of CO. One involves shots measured in feet and the other could involve shots of 400 yards or more.
I think with the .30-06, it doesn't make a world of difference whether you're in the river bottoms in AL or up at 12k feet in the mountains.
