I thought that there might be 1M deaths attributed to COVID-19 before it was over, but the fact that Medicare/Medicaid is paying a 20% premium for care that includes a COVID-19 diagnosis can't help but skew the numbers.
Put into perspective, 1,000,000 deaths is about 1/3 of 1% of the U.S. population, so about 3 in 1,000. The odds of surviving are about 99.7%, which seem like pretty good odds to me.
