I think it will eventually become “means” tested. Meaning if you saved and lived responsively and are set financially, the feds will say you don’t need it, so we’re giving your SS to others, who “need” it.
I think this is pretty likely. SS is already fairly progressive. But I see some type of means test that reduces your benefit if you have income like mandatory distributions from a IRA/401K or a pension.
