There were no mt lions in ND when I left in 1968, 10 years or so later there was a season.

Mt. Lions are seen throughout N.D. many years ago there were rumors of the Game & Fish Department hauling Mt. Lions as if they were released.
Similar in South Dakota, I know a guy who was a dispatcher for state radio law enforcement. He was told to deny and discredit mountain lion sightings in the Sioux Falls area. Supposedly lions had been brought in to control urban deer population. It wasn’t long and the cat was out of the bag on mountain lions.
