Several years ago I had an old beagle do something similar. She took off singing and running the rabbit trails best she could, which wasn't very good, and then suddenly vanished. I still have a beagle sized hole in my heart. She was a good rabbit dog, and a loyal friend. Over the years we've seen our pets do strange things when they realized their time has come.
