In 1994 our local county PD started issuing G22's in 40 S&W. The sheriffs dept and state wildlife officers chose the same gun at about the same time. The City PD chose Smith 5906's in 9mm the same year. Prior to 1994 the county and SO carried personal weapons, anything they could qualify with, the city issued Smith 66's but issued 38+p+ ammo.

Since 1994 we've had 13 officer involved shootings, 7 with 9mm, 6 with 40 S&W. No more than 2 shots were fired in any incident except one and there have been no survivors. All 13 were DRT.

The only incident where multiple shots were fired involved a mentally unstable woman who was chased for over 25 miles before being stopped. She was surrounded by 6 officers from 4 different agencies and refused to get out of the car. She pulled a gun and one officer managed to wrestle it away from her. When she pulled a 2nd gun and fired a shot 4 of the 6 officers fired at least twice each.

The Sheriff's office and City recently traded in their 30 year old guns for new G17's recently in 9MM and the county is expected to go to a 9mm of some sort in a year or so. Both 9mm and 40 S&W have proven 100% effective here.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
