Ruger #1 in 7X57 with a mannlicher stock is the best in my opinion. I have more hunting rifles of all types than socks in my drawer but I always take the Ruger out on a few hunts every year. I like the 175 grain S&B factory loads for it now it puts them in one hole at 100 yards. I hand load a lot of calibers but why mess with what works. The ammo is cheap and effective. You can cleanly take all game in the lower 48 and it would work fine on inland Grizzlies i am sure but why risk it. I like the 7X57 because it is not fast or flashy and you can load down to 140 grains and everything in between if you like but it is effective. A single shot makes you take your time and make an effective first shot like a muzzleloader does. The thump of that 175 grain load on a big whitetail or black bear is money.
