I never expected the accuracy I've seen from the 45-70 Marlin rifles. Really surprised me that a relatively inexpensive big bore lever action could heave 350 - 425 grain bullets so nicely.
Only game I've ever taken with mine was a mule deer doe at about 70 yards. The 405 gr Remington, handloaded to about 1650 fps went through both shoulder blades and broke her spine as well. Dang. She dropped right there.
It's a comforting rifle to have along on camping/fishing trips in bear country. Yes indeed.
