I do most of my hunting in very heavy woods, thickets and swamps. A fixed power 2.5 or 3X does everything I need. Many of my lever guns wear a low power variable, and it usually is dialed to the lowest setting. Longest shot I have taken in those sort of woods was probably 50 yards.
