I've read about the Marlin Papoose? but I can't find any, AR-7's are everywhere for $230 - whatever I end up getting, I'm sure it will meet my needs for a 22
I don't know for sure, but I don't think the Papoose is made anymore. I read it on here in the past few days. I've got a Ruger 10-22 Takedown that came with a padded case that holds the gun and several mags. It has backpack straps and is pretty neat. In fact, I had two of them until I gave my son one for his birthday. IIRC they come with two Ruger twenty-five round mags.

If I was buying a “takedown” .22 LR, it would be the Ruger 10-22 Backpacker Model. The AR-7 is a POS, IMO.
