You can forward email from gmail to other providers. Both proton mail and gmail have good directions on how to do this. The idea is you tell gmail to forward all email to your destination mail servers, which are either POP3 or IMAP. Mail protocols are kind of complicated, but when you see the terms POP3 or IMAP it refers to receiving email, and when you see SMTP it refers to sending email.
