I remember elementary school very well, and the last thing you wanted was your parents called to school for behavior issues.
The principles' paddle was the least of your worries if dad or mom was coming "to straighten you out!"

...of course there was the pre training by Mr. Garrish the janitor who waited at the intersection of the office and hallway leading to the class rooms you passed by every day after morning recess, lunch et al. He herded us like little calves down the shoot with his yard stick...and yard sticks in 1966 were full dimension lumber, not some chinese soft wood.... his sick high pitched cackle after each "wack!" still roils around in my head just thinking about it.
