Tip pooling is a hot topic in restaurants.
Federal law allows it to be required, some states do not. Most exclude managers or owners from taking any part of it.

Tip pooling is socialism and just like socialism, it removes most of the incentive to be exceptional.

I'd rather work where I was paid a straight sales commission.
You sell $1000 In a shift, you are paid out a pre-agreed %.
Same in a kitchen. You plate up $8000 in food, you get a %.

Good shifts and sections should be competed for.
