Love it! The best I ever had was at Al Johnson Swedish Restaurant in Door County Wisconsin. Their's is homemade and worth a trip to Door County just for the pickled herring. Otherwise, Elf brand is fine as long as it is fresh. They only pack it in September of each year and it is good for about three months after that date. After that the fish starts to soften.
