Op only needs to deal with ONE African Lion.
About 5 miles from my little 30 rural acres are about 20 adult tigers, one african lion, quite a few cougars, leopards & wolfs. All behind chain link put up by amateur labor. In a canyon susceptible to flash flooding every 10 years or so. At feeding time you can watch the tigers jump high enough that their heads are above the fence.
Now the 20 adult tigers on the other hand!
You'd need to have more capacity than your 45-70 rifle recommendations also. But only if they are all on you at the same time. Which is not common with what I have read. Herding big cats would probably be like herding frogs...they'll be all over the place.
