I lived for 55 years without a magnum and at no time for those years did I ever feel under-gunned for these Louisiana (and 1 TX) whitetails. But when I walked into my favorite LGS and saw that Hawkeye in a 264 Win Mag, I had to have her. The rifle was love at 1st sight, but I had been in love with the 264 Mag since I was a child reading all the stories in Outdoor Life and other mags on the chambering. Every author mentioned how fast the barrel would be burned out, but I didn't care. I've always wanted one and the Hawkeye and the 264 was a match made in heaven. But, as much as I love that rifle, I can't see me ever buying another magnum.
