I have seen some round ones in the past to. I just looked at all the Weaver 2pc and Weaver style 2pc bases on Midways site and all are square.
Looked at all the rings offered also but you can't see the cross shafts and the info doesn't specify.
Haven't ever read of anyone complaining about it so it must not be a problem.
