Many have mentioned a 7mm-08 as a great all around caliber suitable for anything in the region you hunt. M70 EW, Fieldcraft, Tikka T3 SS....flip a coin. I just put together an all ‘rounder over the last few months only taking advantage of sales and classifieds. Hindsight the 7mm-08 would be preferred, but the .243 was on sale:

A superlite would have been even lighter, but the sporter profile puts more weight over the front (especially since adding the Edge) which I prefer. Waiting on dies and Starline brass to put together a load with 80gr TTSXs.
