This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ There is a reason thr Glock dominates the Police market. BTW, if the slide stays open on the last semi auto shot, the gun is empty. No need for the last step. The slide should be normally left open unless there is a desire to immediately fire or store the pistol.
