Not exactly what most people would consider typical elk country, but this little guy was laying in the shade of a big rock along with 7 cows and calves. That is the 'out hole' in the pic. At the shot he was quartering away. Arrow caught him behind the last rib and came out mid opposite shoulder as seen in pic. Bull went about 25 yards and dropped dead. 52 yard shot with my old Hoyt Charger 60# bow and Whackem 100gr 3 blade broadheads on Easton Bloodline arrows. ~ 380gr @ 275 fps. Felt more like mule deer hunting and stalking than elk, but they are where you find them.
